Kaizer Chiefs teenage prodigy Mfundo Vilakazi says he “promises not to disappoint” after penning a new long-term contract at Naturena.
Vilakazi joined Chiefs’ Youth Development Academy in 2021, first playing for the under-17 squad before being promoted to the reserve team, where he thrived for two seasons.
The Soweto-born offensive midfielder began practising with the senior squad earlier this season and made his Amakhosi debut in the Nedbank Cup against Milford FC, coming on as a substitute for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Since then, the 18-year-old has appeared as a substitute twice: in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates and in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.
Vilakazi has since expressed his delight at penning a new deal, stating that it’s a “dream come true” to play for a club of Chiefs’ caliber.
“I’m happy and excited to have a contract with a big Club like Chiefs,” Vilakazi told his club’s official website.
“It has always been my dream from a young age to play for the senior team and represent Kaizer Chiefs.
“I am looking forward to contributing to the Club and paying back the management for believing in my talent.
“I thank all the supporters who always push me to do better, I promise not to disappoint.”
