AmaZulu star Hendrick Ekstein has opened up about his reasoning for wearing the number 27 on his back.
The 32-year-old has been wearing the number 27 jersey since making it on a professional level at Kaizer Chiefs back in 2014.
He continued to wear the number throughout his career at clubs like Azerbaijan Premier League outfits Sabah and Sabail, respectively.
Ekstein, who scored one goal and assisted another in 11 appearances for Usuthu this past season, has since revealed that he wears the number 27 in honour of his late mother.
“The love behind number 27 is that when my mother passed away in 2007 it was on the 27th,” Ekstein told his club’s official website.
“So, the motive behind me wearing jersey number 27 is that my mother passed on the 27th and she was also buried on the 27th that’s why I love jersey number 27.
“Even the tattoos on my hand say it all.”
