An emotional Cape Town Spur coach Shaun Bartlett was left in tears after his side secure their promotion to the DStv Premiership following their goalless draw against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Urban Warriors came into this fixture needing just a win or a draw to advance while it was a must-win clash for the Team of Choice.
Neither side were able to find the back of the net on the day resulting in a goalless draw which worked in favour of Spurs, who now secured their DStv Premiership status for the 2023-24 season.
Bartlett praised his players, technical team and the club for their efforts throughout the season but reserved special praise for his wife after she supported him through thick and thin this entire season.
“Im still taking it in,” an emotional Bartlett told SuperSport TV.
“I said it last week and i’ll say it again, people don’t realise the goodness of God on this team. Everybody thought it was impossible, but faithful on obscurity means public recognition.
“I’ve got to thank management, the technical team and my players where everybody has done well this season.
“Above all I’ve got to thank my wife. My wife has been there and supported the whole season.
“As a coach you ponder over a lot of things, you go home going through many emotions, Juanita thank you for everything.
“You’ve alway been there for me and my family and it’s one thing that I can count on. Whether we win or lose, my family is always there for me.”
