Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson admits Polokwane City “gave them a lot of problems” but was pleased to see his side walk away with the win away from home.

The Glamour Boys claimed their second consecutive win in the DStv Premiership following their 1-0 win over Rise and Shine thanks to a 51st minute goal by Pule Mmodi at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The win sees Chiefs move up to sixth place on the log with 20 points from 14 games, while Polokwane occupies 11th place on the table with 17 points from 14 matches.

Johnson heaped praise on his defence after they failed to concede against very “difficult” opponents.

“What a game of football,” Johnson said on SuperSport after the match.

“I thought my team defended well. Yes, we scored the goal, but we had to fight for it.

“And I don’t think that they had any clear chances at goal, but they threatened us all the time with the long ball. And that is what the team’s all about, they play the long ball and the second ball. Don’t clear the long ball correctly, they can come in from behind. And for sure, they gave us a lot of problems because in a lot of moments, we were not able to play our game, when we were calmer on the ball.

“I also thought that we gave the ball away too easy when we had the ball, our centre backs, our left back and right tried to make the champagne pass when had to keep the ball a little bit longer, and then maybe the space will open.

“But in saying that, ja, we win the game, we go away with three points and we happy for that.”
