Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson says they are focused on securing a top-eight spot in the DStv Premiership following their defeat to champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Soweto giants gifted Sundowns their seventh straight DStv Premiership title following their 5-1 defeat at the FNB Stadium on Thursday.

Mduduzi Shabalala scored a consolation goal for Amakhosi as they were undone through a brace by Tashreeq Matthews and goals from Matías Esquivel, Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Thembinkosi Lorch

The defeat saw Amakhosi drop to eighth place in the league standings with 33 points after playing 26 games so far this season.

Johnson has since revealed that their main objective is to now finish on a high by securing a place in the top eight of the DStv Premiership.

“We have to play for that, Chiefs have to play for that. They know we have to play for that,” Johnson told SuperSport TV after the game.

“We have to get there. It’s one of the things we have to maintain in order to start the following season on a high note.”
