Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson felt his side put themselves “under a lot of pressure” despite securing a win against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday evening.
The Soweto giants returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership following their thrilling 3-2 victory over the Urban Warriors at the FNB Stadium when Edson Castillo, Ranga Chivaviro and Christian Basomboli cancelled out goals by Luvuyo Phewa and Luke Baartman.
The win sees Amakhosi climb to seventh place on the table with 14 points after 11 games, while Spurs remain at the foot of the table with just three points after 10 matches.
despite criticising his side, Johnson was pleased with their performance and happy to walk away with maximum points at home.
“Ja, it’s a good victory but yet again I think we allowed them in, especially at 2-0, we dropped off a little bit and I thought we cold have scored the third one before they got their one,” Johnson told SuperSport TV.
“But then we put ourselves under a lot of pressure, we get the three and again we allow them to come in very easily, it’s not a Kaizer Chiefs way.
“And they get 3-2 in the dying minutes of the game and we really need to up our game again. So for me I think we’ve got a lot to learn. I think we’ve got a lot to improve on but hopefully we’re able to get more results the Kaizer Chiefs way.
“We haven’t put them together again, we haven’t had the time and hopefully by the time we get a break again, we’re able to compete, we’re able to compare what pairs are good enough in the field, what players are good enough out of the field. But we’re happy to get the three points.”
