Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart says he does not understand why he is not being called up to the Bafana Bafana squad by coach Hugo Broos.
The 28-year-old has featured nine times for the South African national team since debuting under Broos on 6 July 2021.
Since parting ways with Sekhukhune United to join Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, Maart has been omitted from the squad, despite being a crucial player for Amakhosi in the heart of their midfield.
Maart believes there is enough quality within the Amakhosi squad to help Bafana move forward.
“It is true I was being called up to the national team when I was at Sekhukhune and I enjoyed my time there,” Maart told the media as per SoccerLaduma.
“I can’t say why I am not being called up right now but you know the national team coach has his own players that he feels are right at the time.
“What I can tell you is that there is a lot of quality at Chiefs, we have players who can play for the national team if given an opportunity, but for now, our focus is on Chiefs.
“We want to help the team achieve what we want to achieve and we are working hard on that.”
