Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula shed light on his jubilant goal celebration sprint against former club AmaZulu in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

Over the weekend, Orlando Pirates defeated Amazulu in an exciting Nedbank Cup quarterfinal game, winning 4-2.

But in the middle of the fierce match, one player in particular—Makhelene Makhaula—rose to prominence for his on-field accomplishments as well as a humorous and supportive moment.

Makhaula scored a vital goal throughout the game to leave his mark despite playing against his old team. But what really got people talking wasn’t only his objective; it was the hilarious turn of events that happened right after.

Strangely, Makhaula found himself running the entire length of the pitch shortly after scoring, only to be quickly replaced owing to fatigue.

But instead, there was a hilarious and endearing conversation that was caught on camera: Makhaula ran to goalie Sipho Chaine and gave him a heartfelt celebration embrace.

“Before the game, Chaine came to me and made a bold prediction that I would score,” Makhaula revealed.

“At the time, I didn’t take it seriously, considering I hadn’t scored in over eight years.

“So, when the moment arrived, the first person that came to mind was Chaine. I sprinted so hard but only for my body to betray me.”
