Amazulu coach Pablo Franco Martin felt his side “could have gotten a better result” after sharing the spoils with SuperSport United.
Usuthu were forced to settle for a point after Lyle Lakay cancelled out Victor Letsoalo’s opener at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The draw sees AmaZulu remain in 11th place on the log with 24 points from 20 games, while United dropped down to fourth place on the table with 32 points from 19 matches.
The Spanish tactician praised his side for their performance against a resilient SuperSport outfit but felt they could have walked away with all three points.
“I think we played a very good match from the beginning till the end. I think we were very competitive against one of the best teams in this competition, a team that is mastering what they do,” Martin told his club’s official website.
“Very simple but effective, direct play many crosses, overloading the box. We defended very well in those situations, but we suffered in some moments of the game.”
The attitude, the commitment, the fighting spirit, the organisation of the team and the capacity to believe till the end… it’s a pity because again we are feeling that we could have gotten a better result which was really deserved because of the effort of the guys.
“I think the job and process is there despite the result and this uncomfortable situation in the last minutes of the game,” he concluded.
AmaZulu will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup when they take on Sekhukhune United in the round of 16 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Thursday at 19:00.
