TS Galaxy defender Vuyo Mere says the senior players in the team has to guide the younger players within the squad as they prepare for the 2023-24 season.
The 39-year-old has been with the Rockets since joining the club from Moroka Swallows on 14 January 2022.
The veteran defender has struggled to become a regular in Galaxy’s starting lineup and was reduced to just four appearances across all competitions.
Mere believes that some of the club’s young players cannot be considered as youngsters on the field anymore but says the likes of Bernard Parker, Lindokuhle Mbatha and himself need to pass their experience on to the young players in order for the team to succeed.
“It’s very important and it’s not going to be easy for us because we also need to do our part on the field,” Mere told the Galaxy media.
“Maybe I’m not played much but I need to make sure that a lot of the youngsters put it in because now they can’t keep regarding themselves as youngsters.
“Once you play 2,3,4,5 games in this league you can’t regard yourself as a youngster anymore.
“For intense, we have a player like Mike Sebelebele he has done so well but then he is young with age but then we can’t call him a youngster.
“We need to remind them that they need to step up but then the senior players have to behaviour professionalism to do your part so the younger ones will follow behind.
“I think if we can just work hard during training like the coach always emphasises. The harder you work at training the more manageable the games are.”
