Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena admits that winning the DStv Premiership title is one of the hardest trophies to win despite winning the title with seven games to spare.

The Brazilians were crowned DStv Premiership champions for the 2022-23 campaign with seven matches to spare after SuperSport United were held to a 1-1 draw against Chippa United this past weekend.

Sundowns continue to dominate South African football after winning their sixth consecutive league title.

Mokwena has credited and praised his players for what they have done this season and believes they deserved the league title for their impressive performances this season.

“A league title is the hardest to win in any country. In the league, we have to play against 15 opponents both home and away, and the competition lasts for eight to nine months,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.

When people start to think it looks easy, that’s actually when it the toughest.

“From a mental perspective, it’s extremely difficult to have the level of consistency that this group has shown in the number of games that they have played.

“To win continuously and deliver results without getting tired is not easy. With human beings, there’s usually an element of complacency that creeps in, and it is challenging for one not to allow that to consume you.”
