Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is hoping his side can put in a “good performance” and overcome Wydad Casablanca in the return leg to claim the African Football League title.

The Brazilians conceded a 2-1 defeat to Wydad in the first leg at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco.

Wydad opened the scoring through an own goal by Rivaldo Coetzee before Abdelmounaim Boutouil levelled matters from the penalty spot but Anas Serrhat put the game beyond Sundowns with a 78th minute winner.

Sundowns will now welcome the same opponents to Loftus Versveld Stadium when the two sides square off in the return leg on Sunday.

Mokwena was pleased with his side’s performance in the first leg but is confident they can lift the trophy at home in the second leg.

“At the beginning, I would like to congratulate Wydad on their victory today at their stadium in the first leg match,” Mokwena said.

“I also want to congratulate my team’s players for the good performance they delivered tonight.

“I am pleased that we scored a goal here in Morocco, and we will work on delivering a good performance and winning the title in the return leg.”
