Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has showered his side with praise after they claimed the bragging rights in their Tshwane derby victory over SuperSport United.

The Brazilians secured a record ninth consecutive in the DStv Premiership following their 2-0 victory over SuperSport thanks to goals from Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

The victory sees Sundowns back up to the top of the league standings with 27 points from nine games, while SuperSport dropped to third place on the log with 23 points after 13 matches.

Mokwena has downplayed taking the credit for his side’s form this campaign and admits it’s all thanks to his players and the technical team.

“I don’t like taking credit for things… you can have the ideas, it comes as an idea but it is the execution of the players. So I want to congratulate the players for that,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the game.

“I also want to congratulate my technical team; when I came with it, it got their support, especially the set-piece coaches. Michael [Loftman] and Wendell [Robinson], they supported it and worked, and it was good to see it come off.”
