Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena admits that facing Kaizer Chiefs was a 90 minutes he would not like to repeat.
The Brazilians did the double over Kaizer Chiefs after they demolished Chiefs 4-0 in the first round back in August last year.
Sundowns went on to make history after claiming a record breaking 12th straight win in the DStv Premiership following their 1-0 victory over Amakhosi through a decisive goal by Neo Maema at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The win saw Sundowns open a 17 points lead over Richards Bay at the top of the table with 47 points, while Chiefs’ defeat sees them remain fifth on the table with 24 points after 17 matches.
“Firstly let me start by saying congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns football club, congratulations to the players, congratulations to the supporters, I’m sure this means a lot to them,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV.
“You really want to know? I didn’t like the match, it’s too open.
“No that I will speak to the player about. I spoke to them at half time about it and I’ll speak to them a little bit about it but it’s a 90 minutes I don’t like.
“Oh, for sure, we beat Kaizer Chiefs and that’s a big positive. I’m not complaining about the quality of the players, I’m not complaining about the win, congratulations to the team, we worked very hard.
“But it’s not 90 minutes that I think we should be repeating, no.”
Mokwena added that he felt the game was too open but is delighted to have walked away with all three points away from home.
“The performance has got a lot of good things, especially when we played very simple, we pass and we move the ball and we get into the right position a little bit quick enough before the opposition arrives,” he added.
“But when it lacks the simplicity it becomes too open and I don’t like when the game is too open, I like a little bit of control and so ja, congratulation we still beat Kaizer Chiefs you know.
“It’s a big team, we’re a bit team for sure and these are the games we have to win and congratulations to the football club, congratulations to the supporters, congratulations to the entire club.”
