Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says “patience” played a crucial role in helping his side overcome Swallows FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.
The Brazilians secured their eighth straight win in the DStv Premiership following their 2-0 victory over the Dube Birds in Pretoria.
The Dube Birds kept Sundowns at bay for 63 minutes before second half goals from Neo Maema and Themba Zwane was enough to earn the Brazilians all three points.
The win sees Sundowns extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points ahead of second placed SuperSport United, while Swallows are in 15th place – level on 13 points with Marumo Gallants in 14th position.
“Victory is a relief for us as we struggled to break down a tight Swallows defence,” said Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena.
“We lacked confidence and bravery at times in the final third, but our patience paid off as the second half progressed.”
