Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has praised Marcelo Allende’s Man of the Match performance against Chippa United.
The Brazilians claimed their fourth straight win in the DStv Premiership following their 2-0 victory over the Chilli Boys at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium through a goal by Aubrey Modiba and an own goal from Justice Chabalala.
The result sees them stretch their lead at the top of the table to five games as they are now sitting on 12 points after their first four matches.
Mokwena reserved special praise for Allende following his impressive performance in midfield for the Brazilians.
“So proud that Marcelo [was named Man of the Match]. Well deserved and it’s long overdue,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV.
“Incredible team performance against a difficult side. This Chippa side is difficult, they fight. So congratulations to my players, congratulations to the supporters, congratulations to the football club.”
Mokwena went on to heap praise on Modiba, who played in an attacking position rather than his position at fullback.
“We had to win, we don’t have [many options],” he added.
“He’s not a winger, but he’s also not a midfielder. He’s got a position that we have to… and he’ll get better at it because it’s so important.
“He helps us with the passes, he helps us with the creativity, he helps us with a little bit more dominance a little bit whereas some of the other players like Neo [Maema] for example help us with verticality and depth of the ball.
“But yeah, very good performance from the team [and] Modiba.”
