Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena says he was proud of his side for grinding out a victory over Chippa United to secure their 10th straight win in the DStv Premiership.
The Brazilians continued their winning momentum in the league after they edged out the Chilli Boys 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Goals from Teboho Mokoena and Peter Shalulile cancelled out Thabiso Lebitso’s late goals to extend their lead at the top of the table to 14 points after 16 matches.
Mokwena praised his side’s efforts against a stubborn Chippa outfit but felt his side were not playing up to their normal standards.
“Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns for winning against a team that was very aggressive and that really wanted to beat us. So congratulations to this magnificent group of players,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV.
“It’s always a team effort, we always speak about the team, today it wasn’t good, no rhythm in the play you know, not good at all but we take the three points and we move on.
“Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns, congratulations to this group, congratulations to the team in its entirety, the football club, from the management to the supporters and long may it continue.”
