Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has provided an update on Rushine De Reuck’s head injury he sustained in their 2-1 win over TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
De Reuck only last 11 minutes on the field after he scored the opening goal for Sundowns but he was unable to celebrate as he fell to the ground after sustaining a concussion.
Sundowns’ medical team rushed onto the scene to assist the defender and was subsequently stretchered off the field and replaced by Brian Onyango.
Mokwena has since confirmed that De Reuck was not taken to the hospital as he gained consciousness and was well aware of his surroundings.
“Rushine (De Reuck) is on his feet, it’s very good that he has regained consciousness,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“The medical team needs to be given lots of praise from both Mamelodi Sundowns and TS Galaxy for the prompt response, and it’s good to see that he’s walking and he’s gained consciousness.
“He scored a very, very important goal for us which opened up the game a bit and we are just grateful that he’s in a condition to be able to recognise his surroundings now. [We are] very, very proud of his contribution towards the win.”
