Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena believes his side “can only improve and get better” following their victory over Sekhukhune United in their DStv Premiership opener.
The Brazilians got their DStv Premiership title defence off to a positive start after they clinched a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday evening.
Goals from Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa cancelled out Jamie Webber’s 61st minute goal in a match which saw either side get a red card after Vusimusi Mncube and Rivaldo Coetzee were shown their marching orders.
Mokwena was pleased with his side’s performance but feels they still have a “few cobwebs” to shake off.
“The first game of the season is always difficult, there are still a few cobwebs, there is still a bit of anxiety, we also don’t know so much about the opposition, it’s difficult without proper information to do the due diligence that we normally do,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“The boys were very brave and put in a very good shift with a new formation and a couple of new schemes – with a couple of new players. It’s a good base, we can only improve and get better from here.”
