Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says they will respect Kaizer Chiefs when they face off in a mouth-watering fixture at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.
The Brazilians began their title and walked away with a positive result after they secured a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United in their opening DStv premiership encounter this past weekend.
Sundowns will be hoping to secure back-to-back wins in the league when they take on Amakhosi, who are looking to claim their first win of the season after they played out to a goalless draw with Chippa United on Sunday.
Mokwena has warned his side to be wary of Amakhosi as he believes they will continue to improve game by game.
“The starting point is we have to respect every team. We have to respect all our opponents, Kaizer Chiefs is no different,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“You know the rivalry between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs and already that makes it a big encounter the performances of the team, of course, you have to also gauge in relation to some of the changes that have been made from a technical perspective.
“Of course, now you’ve got a new coach so he needs time to to work on his ideas and get the players to adapt to a different way of doing things and it’s it’s a little bit clearer, even though it doesn’t move too far away from the [formation] that they employed but, but there are moments where it’s a little bit more aggressive of a 433 and then the front three is a little bit more advanced than in the previous season under under Coach Arthur.”
“But you still have respect to them from a physical profile they’ve got enough to hurt you both in open play on on set pieces. We’ve got to also understand that it’s a team that’s in in the process of improving itself. And it does seem to me that qualitatively they’ve improved a lot to.”
