Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says he is proud of his team’s performance after they secured a win over Royal AM and walk away with maximum points.
The Buccaneers secured their first win of the campaign after they claimed a thrilling 4-2 victory over Royal AM at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.
A brace from Zakhele Lepasa and goals from Monnapule Saleng and Bandile Shandu cancelled out goals by Hopewell Cele and Mxolisi Macuphu as the Sea Robbers claimed three points.
The win takes Pirates up to third place on the DStv Premiership table with three points from two matches, while Royal AM are placed 12th on the log with one point after two matches.
Riveiro felt his side should have killed the game off early and believes his side missed countless opportunities to stretch their lead even further.
“I think we should’ve finished the game early, we had many, many opportunities to finish the opponents’ hopes,” SuperSport TV.
“But we keep the game open, almost until the last minute. A bit crazy the second half, I didn’t like it.
“We should’ve controlled the game much better with a 3-1 advantage but we have to learn also from these games.
“It happens many times in this league in the second half that the game is broken and is going side to side, we need to impose our tempo in that moment. Today, we had the opportunity to do it and we missed a lot of opportunities to score the fourth one and finish the game.
“A good reaction of our opponents as well after the 3-0, so they can be proud of their performance also today.”
