Cape Town Spurs secured their first win in the DStv Premiership after claiming a 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Urban Warriors got off to the perfect start and managed to take the lead as early as the third minute when Lubeni Haukongo broke the deadlock with a left footed shot from close range.

Spurs then doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Jarrod Aidan Moroole made it 2-0 to bag his first goal of the season.

The Buccaneers managed to pull a goal back two minutes before the half time break through Evidence Makgopa, who nodded the ball home from close range.

The home side kept their lead intact despite the pressure from Pirates as the game went into the half-time break 2-1 in favour of Spurs.

Jose Riveiro opted to bring on fresh legs at the restart as Miguel Timm made way for Karim Kimvuidi, while Spurs brought on Luke Baartman to replace Ashley Cupido.

Thembinkosi Lorch had an opportunity to level matters in the 52nd minute after he was picked out by Patrick Maswanganyi but before the Pirates attacker could attack the ball it was cleared away from danger.

Pirates made another substitution after 64 minutes as Kermit Erasmus was taken off and replaced by Monnapule Saleng, while Spurs handed Surprise Ralani his debut as he came on for Luvuyo Phewa four minutes later.

Kimvuidi had a great opportunity to find the equalising goal in the 74th minute after he beat two Spurs defenders but the Pirates attacker curled his effort just wide of goal.

Sam Ramsbottom came to his side’s rescue in the 84th minute when he tipped the ball over the bar after Maswanganyi turned and took a shot at goal from inside the box.

Riveiro made his final changes of the game in the hopes of turning their fortune around as Bandile Shandu and Vincent Pule were brought to replace Monyane and Ndah.

The home side held on to their lead until the first whistle to claim their first win in the DStv Premiership and collect their first points of the season.
