Stellenbosch FC have confirmed that attacking midfielder Junior Mendieta has joined DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Argentine will join Sundowns after he put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Brazilians.
The 30-year-old leaves the club after three seasons in which he contributed to 30 goals including 15 goals and 15 assists on 79 appearances across all competitions.
Mendieta quickly established himself as a fan-favourite and played a crucial role in helping Stellies achieve a club-record fourth-place finish in the league during the 2021-22 season.
“Thank you for the opportunity and the love that you have given me all these years,” Mendieta wrote in an open letter to the club’s supporters on Wednesday.
“I think I have done my job very well and I have always given my best, and that leaves me at ease. I will always carry Stellenbosch in my heart and be grateful for all the love and affection they gave me and my family.”
Júnior Mendieta has completed a permanent transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The club would like to thank him for his immense contributions over the last three seasons and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.#StellenboschFC 🍇
