Mamelodi Sundowns confirmed the signing of South African forward Tashreeq Matthews from Swedish outfit Sirius IK.
The 23-year-old joins the Brazilians after impressive campaign with the Swedish side after he scored 10 goals in 30 outings last season.
Matthews brings a wealth of experience, having previously played for Ajax Cape Town, Borussia Dortmund, Helsingborgs IF, Varbergs BoIS and Sirius.
He becomes Masandawana’s third signing behind Zuko Mdunyelwa and Matias Esquivel.
Sirius also confirmed the transfer on their official website, which reads:
“Sirius football and the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns … agree on the transfer of Tashreeq Matthews,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“I would like to say thank you to the entire Sirius family for these one and a half years, it has been a wonderful time,” said Matthews.
Matthew will now make his debut in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), having left South Africa for Europe as a teenager.
“Masandawana, we have a new member in the Yellow Family! Let’s welcome winger, Tashreeq Matthews, back to South Africa from European Club IK Sirius!” Sundowns posted on their official Twitter page.
