Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler felt his side needed to be “better on the ball in attack” following their defeat to Orlando Pirates on Wednesday evening.
The Citizens extended their winless run in the DStv Premiership to 10 games following their 2-0 defeat to Pirates at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
The defeat saw City remain in seventh place in the log with 35 points after 26 games, while the Buccaneers remain in third place on the table with 46 points after 26 matches.
Tinkler went on to bemoan his side’s missed opportunities against Pirates but felt his side had a better first half than the second.
“I think in the first-half we contained them extremely well, I think we started to frustrate them the longer the half went on, the more difficult it was for them to penetrate, Darren (Keet) didn’t have to make a save in that first-half,” Tinkler told SuperSport TV after the game.
“It was just us on the ball, we didn’t commit more in attack with two strikers like we have hoped, we didn’t really create many chances but I was quite happy with the team’s performance in the first-half, we managed to keep nil-nil and obviously frustrate a quality team like Pirates.
“Took a bit of a gamble, made a change at half-time, I thought we needed to be better on the ball in attack and the quality that Pirates possessed in the second-half, two opportunities, two goals, that’s the quality that they have and we find ourselves on the losing side,” he said.
“But ja, second-half not as great as the first-half in terms of how we contained them but the quality they possess, two opportunities, two goals, so congratulations to them.”
