Richards Bay FC coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi says his side put on a “top class” performance to claim a victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership.

The Natal Rich Boys secured back to back victories in the DStv Premiership following their 1-0 win over Chiefs courtesy of a goal by Simphiwe Mcineka at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

The win sees Richards Bay remain in 15th place on the log with 20 points after 24 matches, while Amakhosi dropped to 10th place on the table with 30 points from 24 matches.

Vilakazi says he was proud of his side’s performance to overcome Chiefs, secure the win and walk away with maximum points on home soil.

“The attitude and the hunger has increased from the players. They wanted it so much, we know our situation, we don’t have any room for a draw or a loss at this moment,” Vilakazi told SuperSport TV after the game.

“If you want to find a team in a safe space we have to work very hard and I’m very impressed today with the hard work that they put in. In the first half we didn’t have a great game but we kept a clean sheet which was very important for us,

“And second half we had to come out with a counter-attack and try to get something. We were fortunate enough when we got a corner-kick and we managed to score a goal.

“I even introduced (Thabani) Dube because I thought they would come at us, let’s reinforce our defence but only to find out that we still had opportunities. We came out, Justice (Figuareido) I think came out two times.

“So I think the focus today was just top class. We showed in the field of play that we wanted it so much, so bad and I think they worked for it and they deserved it.”
