Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has explained his decision to substitute striker Christian Saile early in the second half against Swallows FC.

The Glamour Boys were left frustrated after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swallows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Amakhosi fans were left fuming after Zwane opted to replace Saile with Keegan Allan just before the hour mark, despite Salie scoring the equalising goal.

Zwane has since defended his reasoning behind the substitute and stated that Saile needed a rest after playing in consecutive matches for Chiefs.

“He has been playing week in, week out,” Zwane told his club’s official website.

“We just had a game last Thursday and, although he looked okay physically, I detected a bit of mental fatigue in terms of decision making.

“Also, we are thinking about another game that is coming and we don’t want to risk injuries. We are trying to find a balance in the squad. I am just grateful that everyone made it through this game.”
