Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane praised goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune for showing his “class and experience” in their victory over Golden Arrows.

The Glamour Boys went into the new year with a positive result following their comfortable 2-0 victory over Arrows thanks to goals from Edmilson Dove and Bonfils Bimenyimana.

The win saw sees Amakhosi remain in fourth place on the league table – level on 24 points with SuperSport United in third place after 14 matches played so far this season.

Khune was equally impressive in the match after he walked away with the man of the match award after making numerous crucial saves to keep a clean sheet against Arrows.

“They also had chances and Itu was at is best today,” Zwane told his club’s official website.

“He led by example and his experience counts a lot. He gives the boys courage and belief. It was very satisfying to keep a clean sheet. We want to build on this now and keep the momentum going to keep more clean sheets.”

The match was also significant in marking the full debuts of two of Amakhosi’s brightest young home-grown prospects, Samkelo Zwane and Kamohelo Mahlatsi. Both players showed enough against Arrows to suggest that they are not out of their depth in this company and will surely been seen more often in the Gold & Black in 2023 and beyond.

“The youngsters did well,” said Zwane., “They will still take time to get accustomed to playing at this level but the more they play the more experience they will get.”
