Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane bemoans his side’s missed chances but feels they can learn from their 4-0 defeat to AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening.
Goals from Dumisani Zuma, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Sede Junior Dion and Bonginkosi Ntuli handed Usuthu all three points, while Bonfils Caleb-Bimenyimana had a penalty save by Veli Mothwa as Chiefs failed to make the most of the spot kick.
The defeat sees Amakhosi remain in fourth place on the league standings, while AmaZulu moved up to fifth place on the table.
Zwane says his side will now go back to the drawing board on focus on polishing the game and reduce the amount of mistake.
“I think if you look at home we played last week and the game we played today,” Zwane told SuperSport TV.
“I think we put them on the back foot early in the game, maybe here and there poor decision making in the final third then we conceded.
“Just after conceding from a dead ball situation, I think we could’ve defended better then we got a penalty. I think had we converted that penalty it would’ve been a different ball game altogether.
“But after that again we conceded from a dead ball situation then the mistake and unfortunately whenever we make mistakes we get punished and when the opposition make those mistake we don’t take them, we don’t bury those chances
.
“It’s one of those days that I’d like to forget more especially for the players because I think they tried their level best and several times Mshini (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo) could have scored, (Wandile) Duba should have scored and I believe (Edmilson) Dove as well.
He added: “It wasn’t just our day but the performances wasn’t that bad to be quite honest.
“We controlled the game and obviously we were chasing the game, we lost a little bit of structure but we still looked like scoring at any given time.
“We knew they would sit back and try and catch us on the counter attack. So ja it’s one of those where we can learn from it ad we learnt the hard way today.”
When asked about his side’s opportunities in the final third and their lack of fire power up front Zwane responded:
“As I said we had the opportunities and we opened them up but poor decision making in the final third let us down and maybe we had options but when we were suppose to pass the ball we shoot.
“It is something we going to work on to polish it until it gets better.”
👀 “The performance wasn’t that bad, we were in control of the game.”
