Ajax Cape Town CEO Ari Efstathiou says he is confident that a player of Isaac Nhlapo caliber can help improve the Urban Warriors defence.
The 27-year-old signed a pre-contract with the Urban Warriors from Platinum Stars and will officially join the club ahead of the 2017-18 Absa Premiership season.
Efstathiou says he is relishing the chance to see the defender don the Urban Warriors jersey, insisting that it was an easy decision to sign a player with the defensive qualities like Nhlapo’s.
‘Good centre-backs are extremely hard to find in South Africa and when someone of Isaac’s caliber becomes available on a free; it was it’s an easy decision,’ Efstathiou told the Ajax Cape Town website.
‘It was one position that we wanted to strengthen in the January transfer window. It is unfortunate that we haven’t been able to bring him to the club for the second half of this season, but it’s great that we can start to strengthen strengthening the squad early for the 2017-18 season.
‘After speaking to him, he seems raring to go and would love to join the club straight away.’
Since joining Platinum Stars in 2014 from National First Division side Thanda Royal Zulu, the defender has played 39 games in all competitions for Dikwena, while only managing to get on the scoresheet once.
