Following their decision to withdraw their bid to stop the new Absa Premiership season, Ajax have accepted their relegation to the NFD after fielding an ineligible player.

The Urban Warriors’ CEO held a press conference at Ikamva on Friday afternoon to announce the club’s decision.

The Mother City-based outfit withdrew their application to interdict the start of the 2018-19 campaign on Thursday.

This came after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) had been granted leave to appeal the High Court decision to set aside the judgement of advocate William Mokhari against Ajax.

Mokhari had ruled that the Urban Warriors should be docked points for fielding an ineligible player in striker Tendai Ndoro, which effectively consigned Ajax’s relegation to the NFD.

Efstathiou has confirmed that Ertugral will continue his coaching role at Ajax as they begin their battle to gain promotion back to the Absa Premiership.

‘Muhsin is staying‚ he’s committed‚’ Efstathiou confirmed at the clubs press conference.

‘It’s very important for us because‚ obviously he came midway through the campaign‚ in the second part of the season‚ and to show continuity is important for us.

‘You can imagine that financially‚ it is quite a strain for us but we think it is important if our intentions are to immediately get back up to the [top-flight].

‘We have to keep the head intact and Muhsin has committed himself to the club for this year.’
