According to reports, Hendrick Ekstein and Kaizer Chiefs have failed to agree a new deal, with the midfielder’s current contract set to expire in June this year.
According to a report in KickOff.com, sources close to both the player and club have indicated that Ekstein’s time at Naturena is up after meetings last week proved unsuccessful.
The midfielder has not played in both of the Amakhosi’s last two Absa Premiership clashes against SuperSport United and Maritzburg United.
Ekstein has been available to sign a pre-contract with potential employers, but has always been keen to extend his stay at Naturena should the club match his contract expectations.
The club were not willing to match the 28-year-old’s demands, however, according to a source quoted in the report.
‘The player was presented with a new offer last week, but it was far away from what he expected,’ said the source.
‘He turned down the offer and asked the club to improve it. He is waiting for the club to come back with a much-improved contract,’ he added.
It looks as if Ekstein could well be heading out of Naturena, with the club having already handed extensions to Kgotso Moleko, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Bernard Parker.
Ekstein will be available on a free transfer, but there have been no indications where he may end up just yet.
