Cape Town City striker Kermit Erasmus is disappointed not to be featuring for the Citizens when they take on Baroka on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The 28-year-old joined the club from Portuguese side Vitoria de Setubal after putting pen to paper on a long-term deal with the Mother City-based outfit.

The former Orlando Pirates striker struggled for playing time in the French Ligue 1, while he also spent time on loan at second tier outfit Lens.

He later moved to Sweden’s Eskilstuna for a short spell before arriving at Vitoria in 2018-19.

Erasmus feels that he has joined the right club and is ready to give his all to the Citizens when given the opportunity to take to the field.

‘I’m happy here and I’m enjoying my time at the club,’ Erasmus said.

‘I’m just disappointed that I won’t be part of the game this weekend, but it’s one of those things. I just have to be careful and be 100% and be ready for the game after that.

‘Like I said, I’ve been watching them from afar and I had an idea when I came here and it exceeded my expectations.

He added: ‘I’m really happy that I came here, the training sessions have been great, every player looks forward to waking up. We excited to train, we are excited to be a part of the day in training, even me. As much as I jog around the field, I miss being part of the team and training with the guys.’

Speaking about the potential of the squad, Erasmus said: ‘It’s always good to have competition among us players, but we push one another to be the best everyday, not only on game day, but also in training.

‘I think that’s when you give yourself a chance to be a part of the team on the weekend.

‘It’s healthy competition, there is no bad blood, so it creates a good vibe among us.

‘We can have a laugh at times, but most of the time we work hard and push each other to be the best for one another as a team.’

Cape Town City are set to welcome Baroka to Cape Town Stadium when the two sides go head-to-head in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, with kick-off set for 8:15pm.
