Kermit Erasmus admits that not getting enough game time played a huge role in his decision to join Cape Town City, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The former Orlando Pirates recently put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year contract with the Citizens, putting an end to speculation surround his future.
Erasmus failed to make an impact and properly settle in while playing abroad for the likes of RC Lens, Stade Rennais, Athletic Eskilstuna and Vitoria Setubal.
Speaking to the media at his unveiling last week, Erasmus admitted that his biggest limitation while playing in Europe was his lack of regular game time.
‘Everything happens for a reason, mine was just not getting enough game time and it wasn’t based on anything, just game time, and for me it is all down to the coach,’ Erasmus said.
‘I’ve worked as hard as I could have worked throughout my time in Europe and things just didn’t work out for me in that aspect. If it was the other way around I would be still in Europe, but you know I also have to look at my age and what I want for myself.
‘No amount of money can make you happy if you’re not playing on the field, for me that’s the most important thing as a footballer, so for me, my advice to youngsters, go and try to play, if you don’t play you will fade away, that’s the reality of football, it’s the most important thing,’ he concluded.
