Cape Town City defender Taariq Fielies has opened up about his ambitions to play for Bafana Bafana, and one day making the move to Europe, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The 26-year-old has played a crucial role for the Citizens in defence this season, and has already managed to rack up 18 appearances in all competition this season while creating one goal and scoring two in the process.

The Citizens are currently placed fourth on the Absa Premiership standings with 30 points after 18 games, following their 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on 30 January.

After being named in the national team’s Cosafa Castle Cup squad last year, Fielies gave his thoughts on being called up to Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana setup.

‘Every player wants to play to play for his national team, but it depends on the coaches, if they select you,’ Fielies said.

‘It’s up to the selectors, but I feel like I’m doing okay here, so it’s all up to the head coach of the national team.’

When asked about his future, Fielies spoke about his desire to play in Europe, while joking about joining one of Europe’s top clubs.

‘Every player’s ambition is to go play in Europe, so that’s mine as well. I’m just waiting for PSG,’ he jokingly said.

Cape Town City will be back in action on Saturday when they take on AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium, with kick-off set for 8:15pm.
