Former Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mame Niang has confirmed his retirement from professional football.
The Senegalese forward, who announced his retirement for the second time in his career, spent the most of his career playing in South Africa, Germany and Norway.
The winner of the Premier Soccer League’s Top Goalscorer award in 2005-06 spent last season plying his trade for the University of Pretoria in the National First Division (NFD), but only for a few months before returning to Norway to be with his family.
However, the former SuperSport United striker has since confirmed that he has hung up his boots after his 15-year career.
‘It’s been 15 years of pleasure on the field, and now I have decided to hang up my boots. It’s not because of my physical condition or anything, but because of my family and my business ventures. I’ve now got to make up for all the time that I lost in hotels and travelling with clubs by spending time with my family, looking at my businesses and securing my future.
‘Of course I’ll miss being on the pitch, but I will still be involved in the game as an agent and maybe as a part-time analyst. I’ll always be around.’
