Free State Stars have congratulated their first-team goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi after he received a recall to the Congo national team.

After returning from an Achilles tendon injury and spending six months on the sidelines, Mafoumbi’s impressive displays in the Absa Premiership has prompted Congo head coach Pierre Lechantre to include him in their squad.

The 23-year-old will now represent his national team when they take on Mauritania on March 27, 2017.

‘We wish you all of the best,’ the Free State Stars website said.

The shot-stopper has already played for the likes of RC Lens B, US Le Pontet, FK Vereya Stara Zagora and Free State Stars.

At international level,  Mafoumbi has kept a clean sheet from 16 appearances in all competitions since making his debut at the age of 18, back in October 2012 under the guidance of then coach Jean-Guy Wallemme.

Free State Stars will next take on Highlands Park in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 on Saturday.

The match at Goble Park kicks off at 20:15.
