New Mamelodi Sundowns left back Fares Hachi insists it was a team effort, despite winning the Man of the Match award following their 1-1 draw with Chippa United on Tuesday.

The Algerian left back moved to Sundowns on a free transfer during the January transfer window after signing a two and a half year deal with the defending Absa Premiership champions. He becomes the first Algerian player to play in South Africa.

Hachi, who previously played for ES Setif, made 38 appearances and three assists in all competitions during his spell at the Algerian club.

The Brazilians opened the score with an 18th-minute goal by defender Wayne Arendse, but conceded a penalty which Chippa striker Rhulani Manzini converted as both sides shared the spoils and walked away with a point each at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

The 27-year-old stayed humble and insisted it was a team effort after he won Man of the Match, but he says the Brazilians are looking forward to redeeming themselves in their next Absa Premiership encounter against Dikwena.

‘The congratulation is not for me, it’s [for] team. It’s good now, but [we look ahead] to the next match,’ Hachi said after the match.

Sundowns are currently placed fifth in the Absa Premiership standings with 26 points and have won eight out of 12 matches played so far this season, with four games in hand.

Over the course of his career, Hachi has netted three times and has assisted a further four goals from 114 appearances in all competitions, playing for the likes of ES Setif and French sides Grenoble Foot 38, FC Chamois Niort, SO Cassis Carnoux and FC Echirolles.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Platinum Stars in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
