With reports continuing to suggest the imminent sale of Bidvest Wits, coach Gavin Hunt has revealed that nothing has been discussed with the squad and if the sale goes through, they would all have to accept their unemployment and move on.
For over a week now, Wits have dominated football headlines in South Africa with their reported sale and relocation to Limpopo province. Reports suggest talks to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila’s management are close to securing the Braamfontein-based club’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) status.
The Wits coach, though, had this to say with regard to the speculation.
‘Look, I can’t comment or say anything about what is happening to the club. It’s not my place but that of Alan Fainman [Wits chairman],’ Hunt was quoted by Daily Sun.
‘If that is the case then we will have to move on and be unemployed. It’s sad! Nothing has been discussed with us.
‘We just read about it everywhere. Let’s hope we will finally be told something.’
Media reports have also emerged that the 2016-17 Absa Premiership champions are set for a fire sale, with the likes of skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo, winger Deon Hotto, Gift Motupa, Phathutshedzo Nange, Thabang Monare and left back Sifiso Hlanti rumoured to be targeted by the big three – Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
