Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes Mamelodi Sundowns have the quality to lift the Absa Premiership title at the end of the season.
The Brazilians lead the PSL standings with 43 points and have a game in hand over second-placed Orlando Pirates, who trail by a point.
Hunt feels Pitso Mosimane’s side have the quality in their squad to claim the title this season, despite their participation in the Caf Champions League.
‘Look, I still think Sundowns [should win it]. If you look at their squad, they got a very good squad of players,’ Hunt told the media.
‘You know when it comes to these times, you need to have the know-how because you need to understand what it needs and sometimes a point is good when you get to the end of the season, which we discovered last year.
‘But there is a lot of know-how at Sundowns and they got a quality, that’s for sure.’
The Wits mentor believes ‘strange’ things will happen in the last five games of the current campaign, stating there is still much to play for.
‘The key is you need to be consistent. Sometimes you find players doing some strange things when you get to that time of the season,’ he added.
‘[In] the last five games there will be strange results, there is no doubt about that every year. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you will always get strange results.
‘I will never forget the one where we [SuperSport] were chasing and Sundowns lost to Cosmos. Cosmos then got relegated at Rand Stadium and we won the league that year.
‘I mean you will never bet against them [Sundowns] losing that game, so anything can happen.
‘Remember the one year where Kaizer Chiefs needed one point from the last four games and didn’t get anything.’
