Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt felt his side lacked the quality to create chances to help them defeat Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership encounter over the weekend.

The Clever Boys were forced to settle for a point after playing out to a 1-1 draw with 10-man Sundowns at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.

The draw sees Wits remain at the top of the league table with 38 points after 21 games played, while Sundowns trail the log leaders by two points, having played two games less.

Hunt admits that his side’s biggest problems have been in the finishing department this season.

‘I think we deserved to win the game, in my honest opinion. But obviously, you know we just didn’t have the quality in the final third,’ Hunt told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘We had enough chances to win. So I’m very disappointed that we didn’t win the game, and obviously they are experienced and have the know-how to delay the game, and they did well so you got to give them credit for that.

‘We got to be better in the final third and all that, but it’s been an Achilles heel for us all season. We created overloads.

‘But it was very difficult because they stayed compact in the middle and you couldn’t go through to the middle, so we had to overload them from the side.

‘And between both our fullbacks, I must have had 20 to 30 crosses each. I don’t think one hit a good area, so there’s your problem.

‘Because when a team sits in there it’s difficult and we had to break them down and we didn’t break them down, that’s pretty much the bottom line.’

Bidvest Wits will be in action next when they take on Cape Town City. The two sides meet at the Bidvest Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, with kick-off set for 8:15pm.
