Highlands Park midfielder Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane believes that the health and safety of the players need to be the priority in any plan to restart football amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United man, like many footballers and people across the globe, has been confined to his home during lockdown and is training alone in an attempt to keep fit.

Yeye only joined Highlands Park in September last year and has seen his first season with the Lions of the North curtailed by the global pandemic.

Letsholonyane, speaking to the Sunday Sun, admitted that he is ‘tired’ of the situation but understands that certain measures need to be put in place to protect the safety of players.

‘The safety of the players should come first. We are all tired of the lockdown, but we should be safe and exercise all the necessary measures in order to play the game behind closed doors. I miss my teammates but life come first,’ said Letsholonyane.

Yeye also opened up on his business away from football as his pub and lounge business with former Chiefs teammate Siphiwe Tshabalala has also been hard hit by the pandemic.

‘Our business isn’t getting returns at the moment. We’ve been hit hard as we haven’t been operating for the past two months, with no money coming in,’ Letsolonyane continued.

‘But once everything is settled, we’ll pick up the pieces. The investment is worth it. We’ll work harder to get it back on track, it’s just that we took a big knock right now.

‘Imagine telling other parents we won’t be able to pay them anymore. That’s painful as I am a dad myself.’
