Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane admits to being saddened by the sacking of Benni McCarthy at Cape Town City, saying he admires how his team played football.

It was announced in the early hours of Monday morning that Benni was leaving the Citizens after two years in charge.

McCarthy built up his side to have a reputation as one of the most exiting teams to watch in the league, and Mosimane admitted that he was one of Benni’s biggest fans.

‘I am very, very saddened by the Benni McCarthy sacking. I was his biggest fan, admiring how he taught his team to play the right way of playing football. His team could build up play from the back like what big teams do in Europe [Manchester City, Bayern, Liverpool],’ Mosimane said on his Twitter account.

‘A typical example of his work was the goal that Cape Town City scored against Kaizer Chiefs. A coaching clip for coaches and those who believe in good football. A big loss to SA football and I hope he remains in the PSL to transfer his philosophy to another team,’ continued the Sundowns coach.

Mosimane also highlighted McCarthy’s reputation and pulling power with players joining the Citizens to play under his tutelage.

‘Some players went to play for Cape Town City FC just to play for him. A very good coach and I salute you, Benni. You can walk away with pride especially after delivering a trophy in just a year and a half,’ concluded the former Bafana Bafana coach.
