Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic says he is happy to be back on the field after a frustrating three weeks on the sidelines.

The 27-year-old picked up a head injury during their clash with AmaZulu in September before returning from injury to inspire a win over Cape Town City last week.

However, Nurkovic has put his injury setbacks behind him after scoring a brace to help Amakhosi claim a 2-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

The victory extended the Glamour Boys’ lead at the summit of the Absa Premiership table to five points, while Pitso Mosimane’s side remained second with 17 points.

‘My job as a striker is to score as much as possible, to help the team, today was my day and I’m grateful, thank God,’ Nurkovic told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘It was a very difficult three weeks for me because I had this head injury, I feel good [now], I could not play with my head. Finally, I’m back on the pitch and I’m happy that I’m scoring goals and helping the team to achieve their goals.

‘Everyone is wonderful, it shows that hard work pays off. I’m not on the pitch just to score goals, if I’m in a position to assist, my teammate is in a better position I’d rather assist him to score.

‘Once again I’m grateful and I want to take this opportunity to thank the Amakhosi fans, without them it was going to be very difficult.’

Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their attention to their mouthwatering Telkom Knockout Cup quarter-final against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
