Pitso Mosimane, coach of Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane feels his side lacked a strong presence in the box to convert their chances in the final third.

The Brazilians were forced to settle for a point after playing out to a 0-0 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.

Mosimane says he was unhappy with their finishing, stating that his side had the width and wing play, but failed to capitalise on their chances.

‘We took a long time to get the width and we depended more on our usual way of playing, especially in the first half, okay we fixed it in the second half,’ Mosimane told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘We got a lot of width and wing play, but still we didn’t have that strong presence in the box to convert our crosses, to be honest. They defended well and they did what they had to do, it is tactics and why not?’

The former Bafana Bafana mentor went on to praise his counterpart, Lehlohonolo Seem, who he believes correct their mistake that saw them suffer a 3-2 defeat against Free State Stars in their last league encounter.

‘Yeah, that’s where we say the coaches are good, they corrected their mistakes at the back, but I have never seen Celtic play like this before, but they did it today. It’s right, why not, but let’s see if they can continue to defend properly like they did today,’ he added.

‘We missed two chances, I think Gaston Sirino should have scored, Laffor on the edge, that’s why you keep him because you know there’s something from him, but I am not sure about the tackle [Mbhazima Rikhotso] – we have to see.’

Mosimane added that his side were taking it game by game with their congested fixture schedule, but would like to see Sundowns continue their momentum until the end of the season.

‘It’s okay. It’s a championship. It’s happening to Liverpool and Manchester City. You have to play. You have to keep going. It shows how difficult it is, it doesn’t mean we will win all the games. Whoever wins all the games is a champion,’ Mosimane concluded.
