Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele admits that the matter of his contract has never been an issue after extending his stay with the Buccaneers.

The 33-year-old defender pledged his loyalty to the club after putting pen to paper on a one-year extension, which will have him remain at the club until the end of the 2020-21 season.

The captain, the club’s longest-serving player, has been calling Pirates home from a very young age.

‘This is a place I called home since I joined as a 19-year old,’ Jele told his club’s official website.

‘The matter of the contract has never been an issue for me because this is home. I have a very good relationship with the chairman, the door is always open for me. If ever I have issues, I can always go to him.’

Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, released the following statement on the matter:

‘Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that Happy Jele has signed on the dotted line to extend his stay on board the Buccaneers ship.

‘The captain has been rewarded with a contract extension for another season.

‘Jele, who will celebrate his 14th season as a Buccaneer when the 2020-21 season kicks off next month, continues to impress in the Black and White jersey.

‘This past season saw Magents record the second-most minutes played behind goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, which is all testament to his professionalism.’
