Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele is not concerned about his contract term as he is focused on playing football for the Soweto giants.

The 33-year-old defender recently extended his contract at the club for a further year with an option of keeping the veteran until the end of the 2021-22 season.

The club’s long-serving captain is heading into his 13th campaign with the Buccaneers after guiding them to a second-place finish in the Absa Premiership last season.

However, Jele insists he is delighted that the club showed faith in him by offering him a new deal.

‘All I can say is that I am very happy. The team recognised me at an early age and they still honour me even now. And for this contract, I appreciate it. It does not matter if it’s one year or two years, for me I want to be in the field all the time. That’s the most important thing,’ Jele said at the launch of the Pirates home-and-away kit.

‘You need to be happy as a person, that’s the one that’s important. It does not matter if you get six months, as long as you play and you are happy then it’s cool. So I was happy with the one year contract that they gave me. I will see what’s going to happen next season.’

Orlando Pirates are set to take on Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Black Label Cup at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
