Orlando Pirates have confirmed that club captain Happy Jele has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club for the 2019-20 season.

Jele’s deal was set to expire at the end of the month, but it was always believed that the defender, who was heavily relied upon by Milutin Sredojevic last season, would sign a deal to extend his 13 years with the Buccaneers.

The club confirmed the deal with the 32-year-old via a statement on their website on Wednesday.

‘Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that captain Happy Jele’s services will be retained for a further season.

‘The deal was concluded after a brief meeting between the Chairman and the player’s manager, Jazzman Mahlakgane, at the Houghton office on Monday.

‘Jele, who will celebrate his 13th year as an Orlando Pirates player this upcoming season, has been handed a one-year extension with an additional option to keep him at the Club up to the end of the 2021-22,’ concluded the statement.

The defender will be hoping to help lead the Sea Robbers to their first piece of silverware in over five years after narrowly missing out on both the Telkom Knockout and Absa Premiership in the 2018-19 season.
