Cape Town City captain Robyn Johannes believes the Citizens are out of contention for the Absa Premiership title this season, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The Citizens currently occupy sixth place in the Absa Premiership standings with 34 points and are trailing log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by nine points.
Johannes is well aware of his side’s current position in the league, but he insists that City will keep fighting tooth and nail to secure their best spot in the log-standings this season.
‘I think the league is a bit far out of our hands, but you never want to give up on that. You always want to go to the end,’ Johannes told the media.
‘Anything can happen. There are four or five games left, there is lots to play for.
‘We’ve seen in this league, how the league has gone and anyone beats anyone on the day.
‘We still want to give it our best shot and end in the best position we can. If we can repeat what we did last season, amazing, but we still think we can go one step better than we did and give it our best at the end of the season.’
Cape Town City will next welcome Golden Arrows to Cape Town Stadium when the two sides meet in the Absa Premiership on 4 April, with kick-off set for 19:30.
