Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret says his team are gradually understanding his tactics, after securing their first league victory under the Swedish mentor.

The Mayfair based-outfit ended their 12-game winless streak in the Absa Premiership, with goals by Ayanda Gcaba and Dove Wome handing them their first league victory of 2017.

The victory means Pirates have now claimed back-to-back victories for the first time since garnering victories against Free State Stars and Chippa United respectively in December 2016. Jonevret hailed his side’s response to his tactics – citing their ability to play as a unit.

‘After we lost the game against Free State Stars, I think they at least know how to play as a unit, and go out there and play good games and have a chance to win,’ he told KickOff.com.

The 54-year-old mentor alluded to his side’s shaky start in the victory against The Team of Choice, suggesting that things will get better for the Soweto giants, based on their remaining games in the campaign.

‘We were a little all over in the beginning, but I think we’ve found the recipe of that they know what to do.

‘But if we can do that every week it’ll be better. But it’s difficult to say [if Bucs have turned the corner]. At least right now, I hope that the players feel that we are happy again, but it’s difficult to say [if Bucs have turned the corner].

‘They have been tough games for us, we played many of the top teams and now we are playing teams around us,’ he concluded.

Pirates face relegation-threatened Highlands Park in their next league encounter on Saturday April 15 at the Makhulong Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:15.
